OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS WITH ADORATION OF SAINTS EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Period: Early 18th century
Price: € 4.000
Measures H x L x P
Refined oil painting on canvas, embellished with a carved and gilded wooden frame. The painting depicts a scene of adoration, with the baby Jesus positioned at the top, in a central position, seminude and sitting on clouds. Jesus holds a blue sphere in one hand, a symbol of God's dominion over the world, while with the other hand he points his index finger towards the sky, indicating his divine nature. On the sides of the scene, there are two pairs of angels who assist and participate in the event. Below, in adoration and with their gaze turned towards Jesus, two saints are painted kneeling: on the left Saint Catherine, who holds a palm branch, and on the right Saint Anthony, depicted with a friar's tunic, with his hands crossed on his chest and a rope tied to a wooden fragment. This is a painting of great taste and refinement, characterized by a refined stylistic rendering of the pictorial details and by a skillful use of chiaroscuro, capable of conferring a touch of elegance and antiquity to any environment. Manufacture attributable to the Venetian school of the early 18th century. Measurements: H x W x D overall 132 x 102 x 6cm; H x W 118 x 88cm
