Magnificent polychrome maiolica plate from the ceramic workshop of Montelupo. The glaze, an elegant aquamarine, has also been applied to the rim, while the white background is decorated with brown lines that further enhance its beauty. The plate depicts a gentleman strolling, dressed in traditional 17th-century folk attire: wide trousers with hose, a buttoned doublet, and a hat. In his left hand, he holds a rifle positioned on his shoulder, while in his right hand, he appears to be holding a hunting net. Surrounding him is a landscape that could represent the city of Montelupo, with fields, trees, and a clearly visible building. A piece of exquisite craftsmanship and great historical significance, this maiolica plate is part of the tradition of Montelupo's renowned ceramic activity, located near Florence. It was active during the Renaissance and post-Renaissance periods and dates back to approximately the 17th century.
