CASSINA: FINE 16TH CENTURY LEATHER CANDLE HOLDER
Period: 19th century
Price: € 1.200
Unusual cassina (small chest) candle holder made of wood covered in fire-branded leather, with bronze hinges. The cassina features floral and geometric decorations that create squares within which are depicted zoomorphic images such as two intertwined peacocks (on the front and back), a snake and an eagle (on the sides of the object). There are slight losses and wear on the feet of the cassina. The object is to be attributed to Venetian manufacture, whose decorations are typical of the late 16th century.
