VENETIAN LACQUER TOWER CLOCK, MID-18TH CENTURY
Period: First half of the 19th century
Price: € 6.800
Refined and unique tower clock in "Venetian lacquer". The case has a rectangular shape with a rounded top and two cusps on the sides; its decoration is of considerable value, characterized by geometric and floral golden motifs. In the body, on the other hand, the decorations, which recall an oriental taste but depict typical scenes of 18th century Venice, represent moments in which characters play instruments among houses or are seated within a landscape frame, surrounded by female and male figures who listen to the music. The dial has Roman and Arabic numerals, with iron hands; there are also writings in English, including the signature of the watchmaker "Nat Hedge Colchester", i.e. Nathaniel Hedge, a famous watchmaker from Colchester in Essex (England). Finally, the clock is in perfect working order, equipped with repetition and weekly winding, with a mechanism of English origin. It is a clock of great taste and refinement, as well as rare, able to donate a touch of elegance and antiquity to any environment. Venetian manufacture of the mid-18th century, probably attributable to the production of the Ranieri (or Rainieri) family, active and well known in Venice in the 18th century. Measurements: H x W x D 217 x 45 x 23cm
