PAINTING MADONNA WITH CHILD MID-18TH CENTURY
Period: First half of the 18th century
Price: € 1.900
Beautiful oil painting on canvas, made on the original canvas and framed with a contemporary rectangular frame in carved and gilded wood. The painting depicts an evocative image of the Madonna with the Child Jesus inside an oval. The Madonna, with her head covered by a veil, wears red and blue robes and, with one hand, supports her child, while with the other she holds the Sacred Heart, a symbol of profound divine devotion. The baby Jesus, standing and wrapped only in a drape, raises a hand as a gesture of blessing. It is interesting to note that neither the Madonna nor the child have a drawn halo; their sacredness is instead suggested by the light that radiates around the figures in the oval. Of good quality and without significant restorations, it is attributed to a Neapolitan artist active in the mid-18th century. Measurements: H x W x D overall 52 x 44 x 3.5cm; H x W work only 38 x 30cm
