OIL PAINTING ON PANEL MADONNA WITH CHILD JESUS AND JOHN LATE 16TH CENTURY
Author : Scuola Toscana
Period: 16th century
Price: € 14.000
Beautiful oil painting on poplar wood panel. The painting features an almost Leonardesque background, characterized by a temple and distant mountains reminiscent of the Holy Land. In the foreground, the Madonna is depicted seated, with a halo and her head covered by a veil. She wears a soft dress, over which a blue mantle is draped. With one arm, she supports the Child Jesus, naked and covered only by a light veil, also with a halo and in an almost-blessing gesture. To the left, at the Madonna's feet, is a third figure with a halo: it is the infant Saint John, holding a flower. Above them, two children without halos, likely the children of the commissioner of the work, participate in the scene. The great pictorial mastery evident in the details and composition of the scene lends the work a sweet and elegant atmosphere. The painting is attributed to a painter from the Tuscan school of the late 16th century. Dimensions: H x W x D 79 x 58 x 3cm
